At a special event in Akihabara, Tokyo, on July 15, 2026, SEGA and NVIDIA looked back on a relationship spanning three decades and announced that the 2027 title VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS would come to NVIDIA RTX Spark, demonstrating it on a laptop PC.

A special Akihabara stage for about 100 attendees

The 30-minute event began at 6 p.m. at RETRO:G on the sixth floor of GiGO Akihabara Building 3.

It was organized around NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to Japan and drew about 100 people, including Virtua Fighter fans and players.

Historic SEGA arcade cabinets, including Virtua Fighter machines, stood behind the stage.

SEGA chairman and CEO Haruki Satomi and president and COO Shuji Utsumi appeared with former SEGA president and vice chairman Shoichiro Irimajiri and Virtua Fighter and Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki.

A relationship reaching back to the 1990s

SEGA’s report traced the relationship to the 1990s, when real-time 3D graphics were accelerating demand for new graphics technology.

The companies worked on graphics technology for a next-generation console, although changes in the technological landscape meant it was not ultimately adopted.

Irimajiri, then a SEGA executive, saw promise in NVIDIA and decided to support it.

NVIDIA’s account also noted that its NV1 chip powered the first Virtua Fighter release on PC.

Jensen Huang on SEGA’s support

Huang said NVIDIA could not have achieved what it was presenting today without SEGA’s help.

He said SEGA’s friendship, support and belief in NVIDIA meant a great deal to him.

Japan and SEGA would always remain important to him.

The remarks established the historical background for the renewed collaboration rather than describing a feature in the game.

Crossroads demonstrated on RTX Spark

SEGA said its classic properties would appear on NVIDIA RTX Spark, beginning with VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS.

When Crossroads was shown running on an RTX Spark laptop, Huang praised it as “very beautiful.”

NVIDIA described RTX Spark as a new superchip designed for thin-and-light Windows laptops and compact desktop PCs.

Its report framed SEGA’s support as part of an ecosystem using NVIDIA ray tracing, DLSS and AI technologies for new experiences.

Irimajiri and Yu Suzuki reunite three decades later

Irimajiri recalled Huang’s belief in technology and willingness to pursue new fields, saying that conviction helped build the NVIDIA leading AI today.

He said he was proud that, when NVIDIA faced difficulty, he had trusted both its faint possibility and Huang’s character.

Suzuki said meeting Huang again felt nostalgic, almost as if he had returned to the past.

He remembered becoming absorbed in discussions of shading and texture mapping through Virtua Fighter and expressed gratitude for the chance to confirm a friendship unchanged after 30 years.

What the announcement did not establish

The reports confirmed the RTX Spark direction and a laptop demonstration, but did not publish standard PC minimum or recommended specifications.

They did not describe RTX Spark as an exclusive platform; the complete platform list, including consoles, remained undecided.

No exact ray-tracing or DLSS implementation, resolution, frame rate or launch hardware configuration was disclosed.
