Type: unconfirmed leak at the time. Claims from Midori on X (Twitter), as reported by Final Weapon, VG247 and GamingBolt.
On February 7, 2024, the SEGA/Atlus-focused leaker known as Midori (@MbKKssTBhz5) posted: “A Virtua Fighter reboot is in development.”
Final Weapon covered the claim the same day and noted that Midori did not explain further details.
At that point there was no official title, platform or release window — it remained an unverified leak.
Follow-up: not RGG, staff from the latest VF games
In a follow-up tweet, Midori claimed the reboot was “not in development by RGG Studio.”
Instead, Midori said it was being developed by “staff from latest Virtua Fighter games.”
The same follow-up said there were single-player and multiplayer elements targeting casual and core players, “including competitive players.”
VG247 and GamingBolt quoted that follow-up in their coverage.
Context at the time
The series had gone a long time without a brand-new mainline entry after Virtua Fighter 5 and later Ultimate Showdown updates.
Community discussion immediately asked whether any project would be a remake, a numbered sequel or a broader reboot.
More detailed system and concept claims arrived about a month later in a follow-up rumor post (related article).
What was confirmed later
In December 2024 at The Game Awards, SEGA officially announced that New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project had begun, with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio named as developer (related article).
The existence of a new Virtua Fighter project was therefore confirmed later.
Midori’s February claim that RGG Studio was not developing it did not match that later official statement.
Details such as the single-player/multiplayer mix and the competitive-player target were also not fully validated by official materials from announcement day alone.
