Type: unconfirmed leak at the time. Midori’s early-March tweets as summarized by GamingBolt, EventHubs and Reddit threads.
On March 4, 2024, Midori posted a longer set of claims about the Virtua Fighter reboot first raised in February (related article).
GamingBolt, EventHubs and Reddit discussions spread those points.
This archive records what Midori claimed then — it was not a SEGA announcement.
Online, esports and offline modes
Midori said the title was “online and esports focused.”
It supposedly had online and offline modes, including customization modes.
Streaming and spectating were called an important part of the title and of a “Super Game” concept.
Midori also claimed an “evolution of ranked matches” similar to modern fighters, focused on scaling with the player and their online play styles.
Visuals, story and platforms
New characters were said to use a modern art style with a character artist attached.
The game concept had “changed many times since 2021 up to now,” Midori said.
It was described as a reboot by current Virtua Fighter staff, releasing on all major platforms with crossplay and rollback.
Midori added that there would be all-new main and side stories with brand-new characters.
The project was framed as a modern competitor to Street Fighter and Tekken, with esports concepts and mechanics similar to current fighting games.
Later Midori adds and Quest Mode
Per a r/SEGA summary, Midori later added that a Soul Calibur 5 director was involved.
RGG Studios was said to have assisted with development, and the project had been in development since 2021.
New and returning characters were both mentioned, and the reboot was framed as “Virtua Fighter 6” aiming for worldwide popularity.
GamingBolt also reported Midori’s claim that Quest Mode would return “in a new way.”
That Quest Mode claim is Midori’s via GamingBolt — it must not be treated as an official confirmation.
What was confirmed later
In December 2024 SEGA officially announced New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project and named Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio as developer (related article).
That presented RGG as lead developer, not merely as an assist.
Many of Midori’s specifics — online focus, crossplay, rollback, Quest Mode, Soul Calibur 5 director involvement and more — were never fully validated as a complete package.
Treat this post as a record of pre-announcement rumor claims, not as confirmed specifications.
