In a VGC interview published on November 6, 2024, Justin Scarpone — SEGA’s EVP / head of Global Transmedia — said the company had a legacy suite in development “and we have another Virtua Fighter being developed.”
The conversation was held at Gamescom Asia and forms part of Andy Robinson’s VGC feature.
After months of Midori rumor coverage (February, March, May), this was widely read as the first clear confirmation from a SEGA executive that a new Virtua Fighter existed.
What was confirmed — and what was not
Scarpone listed the legacy bucket announced at The Game Awards 2023 — Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi — then added Virtua Fighter.
He did not name a title, developer, platform or release date.
GameSpot and Gematsu carried the same quote and noted that no further details were shared.
A note on interpretation
Eurogamer noted that the remark was not exactly confirmation of a new numbered mainline instalment.
“Another Virtua Fighter” confirmed development in SEGA’s words, without locking in a Virtua Fighter 6 label or a final product form.

About a month later at The Game Awards 2024, SEGA officially announced New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project and named Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (related article).
Scarpone’s comment remains the first clear SEGA executive confirmation after the Midori rumor chain.
